The notes below describe the main outcomes of the WA RNO Technical Sub-Committee meeting held in the ITS Multi-Purpose Training Room, Crawley on Thursday April 10, 2008.

In Attendance: Damian Bramanis (UWA, Chair), Mark Favas (CSIRO & iVEC), Rob Mollard (CSIRO & iVEC), Jarren Beveridge (Murdoch), Gerard Thomas (Curtin), Pramodh Gunawardhana (Curtin), Mark Tearle (UWA), Toivo Pedaste (UWA), Mark Eldridge (AARNet)

1. Welcome and Introduction

1.1 The Chair welcomed members and guests to the reformed WA RNO Technical Sub-Committee, and briefly explained the background and purpose of the group.

2. Review Terms of Reference for Technical Sub-Committee

2.1 The Terms of Reference were accepted, with the following changes:

  • Meetings to be held prior to the WA RNO Policy Committee meetings
  • Terms of Reference to include "projects of common interest" between members

3. Appoint chairperson for the sub-committee

3.1 Damian Bramanis (The University of Western Australia) was appointed Chairperson for 12 months.

4. Propose agenda for future meetings

4.1 A number of topics were suggested, to be included on the agenda for future meetings of the sub-committee. These were:

  • Existing project portfolio of members
  • Wishlists for future projects
  • Network refresh cycles
  • Floreat - Perth link
  • Waterford - AARC link
  • Formalising agreements between members
  • AARNet charging models
  • Connectivity to WA Health Department
  • Peering arrangements
  • Lighting the Perth - Adelaide fibre
  • Remote and regional sites - including how they are supported
  • Square Kilometre Array
  • Research-related activities

4.2 The agenda for the next meeting shall include:

  • Review project portfolio of members
  • Review wishlists for future projects
  • Overview of sites and major links

4.3 The location of future meetings will be rotated between members.

5. Any other business

6. Next meeting

6.1 The next meeting will be held at Curtin University. Location, date and time will be advised.
