WA RNO Terms of Reference

The WA Academic and Research Network (WAARNet) is managed by the WA Regional Network Organisation (WA RNO) as an unincorporated joint venture of the University of Western Australia, Curtin University of Technology, Murdoch University, Edith Cowan University, CSIRO and IVEC. AARNet is represented as a non-voting member.

Policy Committee

Terms of Reference

The terms of reference for the Policy Committee are:

  1. To operate as the WA Regional Network Organisation in the context of AARNet.
  2. To provide for the management of the WA regional network of AARNet (WAARNet) to ensure operation to efficiently and effectively meet the needs of member institutions.
  3. To ensure appropriate technical representation from each member institution through the establishment of a technical sub-committee.
  4. To formulate, recommend, promulgate policy on the cost allocation for connection to and use of the PARNet.
  5. To co-ordinate the growth and usage of the WAARNet.
  6. To co-ordinate the requirements for the continuing operation of the WAARNet and ensure effective representation from each member insitution into the overall AARNet structure and through membership in the AAC (AARNet Advisory Committee).
  7. To advise member institutions on inter-institutional communciations activities.
  8. To report annually or more frequently as necessary to member institutions.

Membership

The Policy Committee membership shall consist of:

  • One member from each representative organisation including AARNet (as a non-voting member).
  • The chairperson of the Committee's technical sub-committee.
  • Other invited observers as required and agreed with all members.

Each member must be authorised to make decisions on behalf of their representative organisation on matters relating and before the committee.

Method of Operation

The Policy Committee operates as follows:

  1. A Chairperson is elected from representative bodies on a two-year basis.
  2. The Chairperson represents the interests of all members at AAC meetings.
  3. Meetings are held on a regular basis, normally one week before scheduled AAC meetings.
  4. Each meeting has a documented agenda with a summary of discussion and actions to be produced no later than two weeks after the meeting. Agenda and summary information is published on the public web site http://sponsored.uwa.edu.au/WARNO.

Technical Sub-Committee

Terms of Reference

The terms of reference for the Technical Sub-Committee are:

  1. To provide technical recommendations or advice to the WA RNO policy committee.
  2. To develop and foster cooperative working relationships between WA RNO members.
  3. To provide opportunities for exchange of information between technical staff.
  4. To understand the common issues of members so that the sub-committee may assist where appropriate, and initiate projects of common interest

Membership

The Technical Sub-committee membership shall consist of:

  • Technical Information Technology managers, or nominated representatives within each member institution that have responsibility for the institution's connection to the regional network system.
  • other co-opted members as necessary.

Method of Operation

The Technical Sub-Committee operates as follows:

  1. A chairperson is elected from representive bodies on an annual basis.
  2. The chairperson represents the interests of all memebers at the WA RNO Policy Committee meetings.
  3. Meetings are held on a regular basis, normally prior to WA RNO Policy Committee meetings.
  4. Each meeting has a documented agenda with a summary of discussion and actions to be produced no later than two weeks after the meeting. Agenda and summary information is published on the public website http://sponsored.uwa.edu.au/WARNO.
